Shore Racquet achieved its first PSRA championship by winning Wednesday night against Merion. Merion went into the match undefeated, 22-0. Chan/Matison led off with a hard fought 3-1 win. Team Merion’s first loss of the year. Paul’s steady shots allowed Chuck to try for winners. The fourth game ended 17-16 with a passing shot along the left wall. The table was now set for Jewitt/Willson-win 2 games and go eat and drink.
Al and Bruce started strong and won the first two games in close matches. After shaking hands and celebrating the club’s first championship, Al and Bruce could have left the court for the champagne party. But no, they played and played and played and played. After losing 3 straight and causing many groans from the gallery, Al said that his excuse was that the match was already won and he was concentrating on his fishing/golf/squash dates on Thursday. Chuck has put them both on super secret probation.
Capt./Coach Chuck wishes to congratulate all the team members: Tom Cetrone;Carl Smallwood; Brian Meyers; Tony Cannuscio;Tony Lepre;Paul Chan;Al Jewitt; and Bruce Willson. Everyone contributed to a championship season.
We especially want to thank Brian and Tony C for cheering us on and to Bill and Alice Sykes for making the trip. Thanks Bill for the champagne toast at the victory dinner.
To the club members who have no idea what this is all about-this is a big deal. To Capt. Mott and the Super B team-the bar is now raised.
