Fellow Squash Members,
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to a new year of squash. There are many new items and positive news regarding our club. We can start with a new name, Greate Bay Racquet Club. As many of you are aware, our founder and owner of Greate Bay CC is Mark Benevento. You may also know that the country club is planning a major renovation that includes a new club house across the street from our facility. Mark has future visions of a Golf, Tennis, Squash & Health facility with reciprocal member benefits. This will add stability to our club and added value to our membership.
This begins with the formation of junior clinics held by Lee Mendell, owner of CTC Tennis Academy. Before starting his tennis career Lee was a Nationally Ranked Collegiate Squash Player. Lee will be holding clinics to introduce young players the basics of the squash stroke and rules.
Although many of you are year round players, the leagues and tournaments are just beginning. The club has increased the number of committee members for League, Tournament and Membership. We have many enthusiastic volunteers with new ideas. They include; Tuesday night beginner clinics, Wednesday night doubles round robins and Thursday night singles round robins. There will also be a new Doubles ladder board.
Our presence in the Philadelphia Squash Racquet Association is growing. Last year our traveling teams had one champion, and three playoff appearances. Our juniors continue to make strides in national rankings.
In closing I would like to thank all of the members who have volunteered to keep our club strong. Without your help we wouldn’t have a place to play. I’m looking forward to a great year. See you at the club.
Sincerely, Tom Cetrone President Greate Bay Racquet Club
